Botanica Brasilis: Sugarcane III (2026)
Botanica Brasilis: Sugarcane III (2026) forms part of Botanica Brasilis, an ongoing, long-term series asking how painting changes when its process follows the temporal rhythms of cultivation.
This work adopts a more restrained composition. Three stems rise from crossed bases, introducing a subtle tension within an otherwise quiet image. The forms remain light and provisional, appearing gradually across the linen without closing into a fixed description. The painting invites prolonged looking, allowing the plant to emerge through small shifts in tone, transparency and line.
The surrounding linen remains an essential part of the composition. Its uninterrupted surface gives space for the image to breathe while maintaining the physical presence of the textile. Painted form and woven support remain inseparable, each contributing to the rhythm of attention established across the scroll.
Suspended vertically, the work retains the simplicity of its textile structure while extending the slow, cumulative process that defines the series.
